The 2023 awards season is just around the corner and you can bet I’ll be getting a lot of awards screeners and studio-gifted goodies sent my way as I catch up to all the year’s top films.
Until then I wanted to go ahead and re-post my personal ballots for last year’s awards season. As a voter for the 2022 CACF and PRCA Awards these ballots were what guided me in how I voted for both nominating and awarding films, performances, songs, etc from the year in film that was 2022.
I’ve listed all the top five contenders I had voted for recognition in alphabetical order for each category alongside what my top vote (in other words my personal winner) was for each.
My goal in being open with these (As I will do the same and post my 2023 choices at the end of the year) is to show non-critics readers what one critic’s votes look like versus the consensus that forms among regional and wider critics groups at-large. Remember I get just one ballot, one personal winner, just like everyone else so these choices only go so far in the final results of any awards voting I take part in.
There also might be some ballot changes in my actual votes depending on what categories a particular critics’ group votes on and what films are eligible for consideration among that group. In other words certain films, performances, songs, category ballots, etc that aren’t included on here may have been able to squeeze in my true voting for certain groups’ awards. These are more of a really good guide for me in how I vote.
